Happy Chinese New Year! I recently went down to Chinatown in Melbourne to catch the hive of activity and festivities. Arguably Melbourne’s Chinatown is one of the best places to eat. Perhaps I should say one of my personal favourite places. We are so fortunate that Melbourne has such a diverse and multicultural population, and that spurs us to really get involved with various celebrations and traditions from the cultures that populate our beautiful city. The Chinese New Year was moved to Docklands this year so I went down to see what was happening. Admittedly we missed most of the action but I did manage to photograph a few things I love about my city (including the 80 tonne Dragon installation at the Docklands). I love my city.
Just some facts for you incase you didn’t know much about the Chinese New Year. This year in 2014 we are celebrating the year of the Wood Horse. So perhaps a fortunate year for those born in 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990. So for all of us 80’s kids better luck next year! What I’ve read is that Horse people are friendly, positive and sophisticated! So here’s to all the horses out there and happy Chinese New Year to all my Chinese friends. Hope some of you were lucky enough to score some red envelopes!
