First instalment of project fifty two: Our Christmas story.

I hope you enjoy the little 3 minute visual story sharing a little insight into my family Christmas and inspires you for some of the possibilities of storytelling through videography, photography, and music. Ultimately I hope this project shares with you the possibilities of taking traditional photography for weddings, events, parties, and family portraits to a new level that really capture a point in time with you and your loved ones. Stay posted for next week’s instalment!

Part 2 of Edward & Zahara – Zahara’s Henna Night.

Well for those of you keeping up with these wonderful celebrations you may have seen my previous post on the Loved Up Session with Edward & Zahara. Following their pre-wedding session we were delighted to photograph Zahara’s Henna Night part two of their wedding celebrations. One of the most beautiful things about eastern weddings is that they really know how to celebrate and make a festival out of this occasion by having multi-day celebrations throughout the week or month.

This was Edward & Zahara’s first celebration before the reception and was a beautiful evening organised by the Vallibhoy family at their home in Melbourne. The Henna night was a night of celebration for Zahara and her family and friends to come together to sing, dance, eat and bless the bride for married life. This is usually a small ceremony before the Wedding and Reception takes place in the bride-to-be’s home. In this pre-wedding ceremony, typically all the women will put a coloured powder on the couple and give them something sweet to eat. Each female will take take their turn to bless and wish the couple well.

Zahara’s family and friends took centre stage and it was stunning to see these beautiful women sing and perform a number of traditional dances in perfect harmony. What a stunning night full of vibrant colours, dancing, singing and delicious food. No one left until everyone was tuckered out! This is just a small sample of the photographs taken on the night so that you can enjoy and see some of the celebrations.

Stay posted for the third and final Part 3 of Edward & Zahara – The Reception.

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the launch of a new project I’m starting in 2014 called Project Fifty Two. So what is Project 52 you ask? Every week for 2014 I will post a 2-3 minute video on someone, something, or an exploration of some topic. Aimed to explore, create and enjoy the visual world of storytelling. I hope this keeps you entertained and inspired to find the stories in your own lives! This is what Stories By Salona is all about – telling stories using video, audio, music, photography or a combination of all. I hope you enjoy the ride with me this year and if you think of a story you’d like me to tell – say hello on the contact form above I’d love to hear from you!icon smile New Year, New Projects, New Plans: PROJECT FIFTY TWO!

Meet the Hodgetts – Amanda, Liam, Conan & Magnus.

Amanda & Liam are moving house and wanted the opportunity to photograph the kids in their favourite park doing what they normally do – playing, fighting, kicking the ball, riding their bikes and having fun. Although the soccer got heated between the two boys, I think we all came out having a really fun day at the park. I have been photographing the Hodgetts family for over a year now, and have seen them grow from toddlers to children. Magnus had just started walking the last time we met, and now he is completely dominating the soccer ball running away before Conan tackles him.

Thanks for sharing another beautiful day with us,
we enjoyed watching the bees,
riding through the trees
and best of all no grazed knees !

See you all soon!
Big Love,

Salona xx

This has been an incredible journey against all odds and I am so thrilled, privileged and genuinely happy for both Edward and Zahara on finally getting engaged. Since you have both met Zahara and Edward have been on an amazing journey that has finally found themselves engaged and ready to start a life together as a married couple. You are both living proof that love knows no limits.

From the moment you meet Ed it’s not hard to see that he is a genuinely warm, caring, fun loving guy who undeniably dotes on Zahara. And when you meet Zahara within seconds, her humour and wit has you in hysterics. She consumes you with her wit and facial expressions but Zahara is also one of the most thoughtful, kind and generous people I have met always managing to keep it cool, calm and collected. I enjoyed this day so much ironically much the same as the two of you, it was worth going the extra mile even though the current wouldn’t really allow it. Your love has seen you through so many years of tides and I am sure so many people will be and already are inspired by your story. It is so rare to have found love so young in completely different respective cultures and religious backgrounds. I am inspired by your love and its honesty – you make it hard not to enjoy photographing you both.

I am thrilled to be photographing your Wedding story in the weeks to come and I can’t wait to see life’s journey unfold for you two now that you will be Zedward forever.

I hope you enjoy these pre-wedding photographs. This is Part 1 – Loved Up at Studley Park Boathouses in Kew, Melbourne.

Big Love,
